About Ceretain®

Ceretain® is a Food for Special Medical Purposes to help manage the special dietary requirements of those with high homocysteine levels diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Dementia or related Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI).

A flavourful protein-based drink, Ceretain® contains a special B-vitamin formulation clinically demonstrated to address the medically determined nutrient deficiencies which lead to elevated homocysteine. In this way, Ceretain® contributes to normal homocysteine metabolism in people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Dementia or related MCI. Ceretain® also contains N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (NAC), an ingredient that may provide nutritional support against the effects of a breakdown in the homocysteine methylation pathway.

Ceretain® should form part of a normal healthy diet. It is recommended that this food is consumed with a suitable source of Omega 3 to maintain an appropriate DHA status. Not suitable as a sole source of nutrition or for children under 12. Contains sugar and sweetener.

How does Ceretain® work?

  • High homocysteine levels are implicated in Alzheimer’s Dementia or related Mild Cognitive Impairment

  • Without adequate effective supply of the nutrients contained in Ceretain® homocysteine will not be converted back to methionine, resulting in a high level of  homocysteine

  • Ceretain® contains a special B-vitamin formulation clinically demonstrated to address the medically determined nutrient deficiencies which lead to elevated homocysteine.

  • In this way, Ceretain® contributes to normal homocysteine metabolism in people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Dementia or related MCI.

Ceretain® is founded in science

Ceretain® is specifically formulated to provide dietary management for patients who are at risk, showing elevated homocysteine and being diagnosed with MCI or Alzheimer’s Disease:

  • Studies have found that high levels of homocysteine in the brain can contribute to the formation of neurofibrillary tangles and activate pathways that lead to other errors associated with the progression of Alzheimer’s Dementia.

  • Numerous studies have tested formulas comparable to Ceretain and robustly found effective reductions in homocysteine levels in patients with elevated homocysteine levels diagnosed with MCI or Alzheimer’s Dementia. This dietary management has been found to result in a slowed cognitive decay and atrophy relative to placebos in significant number of patients.

  • High homocysteine levels are implicated in Alzheimer’s Dementia or related Mild Cognitive Impairment.

  • The most important nutrients required to lower homocysteine levels appear to be a deficiency of B vitamins, particularly B6, B9, and B12.

  • Ceretain® contains a special B-vitamin formulation clinically demonstrated to address the medically determined nutrient deficiencies which lead to elevated homocysteine.

  • The nutrients in Ceretain®, particularly B9 and B12 are required for the transformation of homocysteine into the amino acid methionine, with B6 required as part of broader metabolic pathway.

  • In this way, Ceretain® contributes to normal homocysteine metabolism in people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Dementia or related MCI.
